The National Underwater Robotics Challenge 2009 (NURC) takes place this week at Chandler High School, and we’ll be supporting the event with a variety of mixed media and live web streaming. (inside baseball view of the media diagram) We are working with Arizona Promoters of Applied Science in Education (APASE), a community partnership composed of Carl Hayden Falcon Robotics Team, Chandler High School, Si Se Puede Foundation, and a number of volunteer students and professionals.
The student and amateur teams participating in the competition will test underwater robots of their creation in an environment where they will simulate to rescue a multimillion dollar ROV, damaged while collecting data from the effects of global warming when a dormant volcano becomes active. The organizing team is creating a simulated environment that will involve underwater currents to increase the challenge and difficulty of the competition, to test the engineering and design of the robots.
The student- made robots will compete at the 3rd Annual National Underwater Robotics Challenge, NURC 2009, in an event that will involve engineering and applied science in an exciting environment. The public will be able to tour the pit area to view the robots competing and to speak with the young robot creators. The competition is open to students in home school environments, Jr. High, High school, Jr. College or University level as well as hobbyist. Teams may consist of combinations of students, industry mentors, faculty members and parents.
The challenge will take place on June 12th-14th 2009 at the pool area at Chandler High School. The exhibition and team missions will start Saturday, June the 13th at 7:00 pm. This event is open to the public and the live webcast will be available at www.h2orobots.org.
